SUMMARY:Immigration Isn’t Charity\, It’s Strategy: The Economic Case for Newcomers in Alberta | Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History
DESCRIPTION:Alberta’s story is an immigrant story. From the food we eat\, to the culture we celebrate\, to the innovations that drive our economy\, immigrants have always played a leading role. So why do we find ourselves faced with a referendum that makes an assessment on the value of their contributions? \nAt this installment of Hot Dogs & Hot Takes on History\, Centre for Newcomers CEO Dr. Nketti Johnston-Taylor explores the historical impacts of newcomers on our community; not just economically\, but also culturally and socially. \nCome for the hot dogs\, stay for the conversation about how immigration doesn’t take away\, but in fact makes us stronger.

SUMMARY:How True Is a True Story?: The Conjuring 2 (2016)
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever wanted to know the real story behind movies based on true events? The reality is that these films often blur the lines between fact and fiction. We will enjoy a range of classic films and modern blockbusters to find out how well they measure up to history. \nBefore the film\, there will be a 15-minute presentation about the true events that inspired it. You may be surprised to learn what is accurate and what is pure Hollywood. Spoiler alert: the truth is often stranger than fiction! \nTickets include a small bag of popcorn\, presentation and movie screening\, and after-hours admission to The Confluence Cultural Centre. Additional snacks and drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) will be available for purchase.
