SUMMARY:National Day for Truth and Reconciliation at The Confluence
DESCRIPTION:Free Event. Join The Confluence for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation to actively engage in reconciliation and decolonization with a variety of free\, educational programming. \nSeptember 30th is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Colloquially known as Orange Shirt Day\, this day honours the survivors of residential schools and the children who never returned home\, as well as to recognize the inter-generational impact and trauma that residential schools continue to have on individuals\, families\, and communities. \nAs part of our ongoing mission of reconciliation and decolonization\, The Confluence will be offering a variety of free programming all day\, including free admission to exhibits in the cultural centre\, programming in tipis on the land\, educational walking tours and more. The site will also host the City of Calgary Orange Shirt Day Program from 9-10:30 am. \nWe highly encourage visitors to our site on this day to come wearing an orange shirt or other orange clothing items\, such as scarves\, hats\, buttons\, etc. If you are in need of an orange shirt\, we recommend purchasing from the Orange Shirt Society\, a non-profit organization that aims to create awareness of the generational impacts of Residential Schools through Orange Shirt Day activities.

On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation\, the parkland at The Confluence will fill with tipi lodges representing each of the Treaty 7 Nations and partner organizations with programming designed for cultural exchange — from storytelling with Elders to Indigenous games and craft demonstrations.
