SUMMARY:Natalie Gerber: load
DESCRIPTION:As an artist and a maker\, Natalie Gerber is interested in metamorphosis\, flux\, and endless cycles of becoming\, learning\, and unlearning. In this new\, site-specific installation\, Gerber brings together ceramic and textile to consider the transformative potential of weight\, gravity\, and duration. \nload begins with a constellation of ceramic forms that alternately evoke rocks\, eggs\, or celestial bodies. The forms are slip-cast\, a process wherein liquid clay is poured into a mold\, forming a skin-like surface which is revealed when the mold is released. Close inspection of the ceramics reveal the gradations within Gerber’s process\, particularly the slow deterioration of the slip-cast molds. Suspended above the ceramic forms is a sculptural silk lattice that cascades down the space akin to a net\, veil\, or shroud. To create the lattice\, Gerber laser-cuts individual modules of fused silk with a pattern that allows the two-dimensional fabric to expand into three-dimensions when pinned together and draped. In turn\, the silk lattice will evolve slowly across the duration of the installation\, gradually expanding like a lung or a ribcage. \nWhile the body is not represented directly\, it imbues Gerber’s work\, appearing in the dimpled flesh of the ceramics\, and the corporeal drape and fascia-like web of the silk lattice. Like the fallible\, malleable human body\, her work is never fixed or static either. Rather\, it is continuously shaped and re-shaped by the unrelenting forces of gravity and time.

SUMMARY:Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca: "Swinguerra"
DESCRIPTION:For over a decade\, Bárbara Wagner & Benjamin de Burca have developed a collaborative practice across cinema\, visual arts and performance. Their videos and installations are created in dialogue with diverse artists and collectives\, combining documentary strategies with narrative layers of fantasy and allegory. \nThrough processes of listening and shared experience\, direction\, script\, costume\, and soundtrack are collectively conceived with each project’s participants. This horizontal methodology challenges dominant representational forms by revealing tensions between popular cultural practices and hegemonic structures of visibility. Their work offers a critical reflection on the performative gesture and its social\, aesthetic\, and political reverberations.

SUMMARY:Arthur Jafa: Love is the Message\, the Message is Death
DESCRIPTION:Arthur Jafa is an artist and filmmaker. Across three decades\, Jafa has developed a dynamic practice comprising films\, artefacts\, and happenings that reference and question the universal and specific articulations of Black being. Underscoring the many facets of Jafa’s practice is a recurring question: how can visual media\, such as objects\, static and moving images\, transmit the equivalent “power\, beauty and alienation” embedded within forms of Black music in U.S. culture?

SUMMARY:Performance | Brendan Fernandes: Noise See
DESCRIPTION:Noise See is a performance work by Canadian visual artist and choreographer Brendan Fernandes. Originally commissioned by The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia\, the work explores themes of visibility\, protest\, the legacy of empire\, and embodied resistance. \nCentral to the performance are vibrant quilted tapestry costumes that evoke textiles commonly associated with contemporary Maasai culture in Kenya yet rooted in British colonial influence. \nPresented alongside the exhibition Other Moves\, Noise See is performed as a duet: two dancers engage in a choreographic dialogue—merging and separating\, concealing\, and revealing—through their bodily interaction with one another and their own biomorphic form as they inhabit their costume. These dynamic textiles become agents of action\, shaping and being shaped by the dancers’ movements. \nNoise See reclaims a colonial textile legacy and transforms it into a site of protest\, protection\, and presence. Here\, Fernandes insists that silence is not absence but a resonant and radical form of resistance. \nNo registration required; just drop by the exhibition.
