Please join us for the launch of Alice Major’s newest title, Triangularity, coming out with University of Alberta Press this October. She will be joined for an evening of reading and discussion by local author Julie Sedivy, author of Linguaphile.

About the book: In a world defined by silos and specialization, Alice Major’s Triangularity is a profound and timely mingling of big ideas about how things fit together. Religion and science are often considered separate, even antagonistic, ways of thinking about existence, but in these essays and interspersed poems, an experienced poet exploring her own life and craft finds connecting lines to join them. Using her lifelong curiosity about faith and science, Major suggests a geometry where poetry is a hypotenuse stretched between them—a geometry in which which we can think about topics like “belief” or “creation” from different angles and see the shared space they enclose.

Alice Major has published 12 poetry collections as well as a book of essays, Intersecting Sets: A Poet Looks at Science (UAlberta Press).

Julie Sedivy has taught linguistics and psychology at Brown University and the University of Calgary. She is the author of Memory Speaks: On Losing and Reclaiming Language and Self and Language in Mind: An Introduction to Psycholinguistics.
