A diary film is a genre where directors document their own lives, thoughts, and emotions. Come and make your own! Led by Armando Salazar, this class will happen over three nights and will allow you to plan, shoot, get feedback, and then present a finished short diary film.
Armando Salazar’s work explores space, subject, time as a narrative, family and social ties, and the construction of identity. His work on diary films comes from a personal archive of about 100 recorded hours which began in 2008. And it’s still growing!

CSIF was founded in 1978 by a collective of twelve filmmakers who saw the growing need for film resources and film equipment on the traditional Treaty 7 territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Iyarhe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), also known as Calgary, Alberta. Now over 40 years later we are an integral part of the growing cultural community in Calgary and are excited about new collaborations and opportunities.
