SUMMARY:2026 BUMP Urban Art Conference
DESCRIPTION:This summer\, join artists\, curators\, musicians\, writers\, journalists\, architects\, and cultural leaders from around the world for the third annual BUMP Urban Art Conference\, our festival’s Ideas Hub. \nCentered around the theme Of Simmering\, and the Surge\, this year’s program explores how ideas percolate\, persist\, gain traction\, and ultimately transform the world around us. If 2025 asked how cities remember\, 2026 asks how they might break or become. \nAcross three days of keynote talks\, artist presentations\, and panel discussions\, we’ll examine the unseen forces shaping culture beneath the surface\, from journalism and music to public art\, architecture\, and grassroots organizing – and how ideas travel from the margins into the public consciousness. \nFeaturing keynote speaker Faye HeavyShield\, special presentations by Sook-Yin Lee and Marigold Santos\, and conversations spanning public art\, housing and affordability\, artificial intelligence\, cultural movements\, and global creative practice\, the 2026 BUMP Urban Art Conference is where the festival gathers to think\, debate\, and imagine what comes next.

SUMMARY:After the Machine: How to Imagine in the Age of AI
DESCRIPTION:Beyond questions of efficiency or innovation\, explore how AI reshapes authorship and cultural labour. \nAs generative AI reshapes the cultural landscape\, artists are confronting new questions around authorship\, originality\, labour\, and refusal. In a world flooded with synthetic imagery\, automated aesthetics\, and algorithmically generated content\, what does it mean to create something truly human\, and which of us actually care? \nThis panel brings together artists and thinkers to discuss the emotional\, ethical\, and political implications of AI-generated culture. Beyond questions of efficiency or innovation\, the conversation asks deeper questions about meaning itself: What happens when imitation becomes infinite? Does authorship still matter? Can cultural labour survive in an economy increasingly driven by automation? And what is about to be lost as we enter this new age? \nPart critique\, part provocation\, this panel explores the growing desire for human made work in an era increasingly shaped by artificial production and asks whether refusal itself may become a creative act. \nSpeakers \nCadence Weapon (Rapper\, Author) \nPseudo Antigone (Philosopher\, Musician) \nJae Sterling (Illustrator\, Painter\, Art Director) \nDr. Kelly Sundberg (Criminologist\, Professor\, Mru) \nJarett Sitter (Writer\, Illustrator) \nModerator
\nContra (Bump\, Foreignerz) \n_____ \nBUMP Festival returns August 3–17\, 2026\, transforming Calgary through murals\, sculpture\, music\, placemaking\, and artistic dialogue. Running August 13–15\, the BUMP Urban Art Conference is the festival’s ideas hub—a three-day gathering of artists\, thinkers\, musicians\, and cultural leaders exploring the forces shaping public art and the cities we share.
