SUMMARY:Curtis Talwst Santiago: worlds\, worlds\, worlds
DESCRIPTION:worlds\, worlds\, worlds explores how stories are held and carried across the vestiges of history and memory. Rooted in a form of world-building where inherited imagination meets critical fabulation¹\, the exhibition celebrates polyphonic identities that negotiate different geographies across time\, weaving the material\, the fragmentary\, and the ever-evolving within storytelling. \nCentral to the Contemporary Calgary presentation is a focused survey of Santiago’s dioramas. Begun in 2008 and collectively known as the Infinity Series\, these intimate works move fluidly between personal memories of Caribbean community life: basement dance parties\, the quintessential barbershop\, figures dreaming in the grass\, and broader collective histories such as migration crises and the rise of territorialism in its many forms. These scenes are portrayed as something precious and deliberately sheltered\, worlds that can be held in the palm of a hand\, inviting careful observation of details often overlooked.

SUMMARY:2026 Author in Residence Talk: Serendipity
DESCRIPTION:Join Eugene Stickland for a lighthearted reminiscence: Serendipity can be defined in a positive sense as the things we find when we are looking for something else. Happy accidents. Random events that change the course of lives. Hear how a series of unlikely events shaped his life\, transforming him from an aspiring pianist to an acclaimed author.

SUMMARY:Ideas in the City: Travel and Adventure
DESCRIPTION:Join Mount Royal University’s Faculty of Arts in discussion of the Humanities\, Social Sciences\, and Creative Arts. \nFor some\, to travel is to invite change and difference. For others\, to travel is to indulge and find the familiar. For some\, adventure is to look\, to seek\, to engage. For others\, adventure is to escape\, to forget\, to relinquish. While travel necessitates physical movement\, adventure can occur via stories\, stimulants\, and more. Travel requires resources and time; adventure requires curiosity and willingness. Travel and adventure tempts the sociable\, the gregarious\, and the outgoing. Travel and adventure soothes the solitary\, the reticent\, and the reserved. \nHosted at the Patricia A. Whelan Performance Hall at the Central Library\, this event features engaging lightning talks that illuminate the stories\, ideas\, and experiences about travel and adventure. Whether you’re curious about design\, history\, psychology\, culture\, literature or the unexpected\, Phoenix Rising will inspire.
