SUMMARY:Jane Jin Kaisen: Burial of This Order
DESCRIPTION:Burial of This Order brings together three works by Jane Jin Kaisen that underscore her ongoing interest in ritual\, collectivity\, capitalist critique\, and the possibilities of social and political transgressions. \nThe exhibition centres on Kaisen’s titular video installation (2022)\, through which the audience is invited to follow a funerary procession gathered to ceremoniously bury a world order built upon hierarchy and division. The social actors called on to perform this duty\, including artists\, poets and activists\, transgress traditional ceremonial practices indicating that this ritualized enactment is a funeral without grievers\, assembled to dismantle unlivable structures\, rather than lament current conditions. \nThe exhibition’s central work is accompanied by Sorrow Waters This Land (2024) and Dokkaebi (2024). The former focuses on the setting for the procession – a derelict resort on Jeju Island that was abandoned following the IMF financial crisis of the 1990s\, now persisting as a crumbling ruin of capitalism. The latter features powerful Dokkaebi deities from Korean folklore\, unpredictable tricksters who dance suggestively through the space\, haunting or perhaps compelling the procession.

Hear the music on vintage equipment\, uncover the stories behind the recordings\, and enjoy a live interpretation by your guide. \nConceived by Rolling Stones tour manager Ian Stewart and built in 1968\, the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio (RSM) helped redefine how—and where—albums could be made. It’s only fitting to begin with their 1971 release Sticky Fingers\, a chart-topping record and the debut on their own label. Released April 23\, 1971\, the album blends raw rock\, country\, blues\, and soul into a cohesive\, era-defining sound. Featuring enduring tracks like “Brown Sugar\,” “Wild Horses\,” and “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking\,” it also marked a turning point in the band’s artistic control and identity—complete with its iconic Andy Warhol–designed cover. More than a hit record\, Sticky Fingers captures a band expanding its sound and setting the tone for 1970s rock. \nPlease note: this session includes mature themes and may be best suited for older audiences. \nABOUT THE ROLLING STONES MOBILE STUDIOStep into music history and listen to iconic albums as they were recorded through the historic Rolling Stones Mobile Studio. As part of this event\, you’ll get exclusive access to the RSM guided by the National Music Centre’s studio engineer. \nDubbed the “Sistine Chapel of rock ’n’ roll\,” this historic mobile recording studio was used by British rock legends Led Zeppelin\, Deep Purple\, and The Rolling Stones. Conceived by Rolling Stones tour manager Ian Stewart and built in 1968\, the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio (RSM) was the first-ever professional mobile recording studio\, built to accommodate the band’s wild 24-hour lifestyle. Equipped with a state-of-the-art Helios recording console\, the RSM soon gained popularity among other musicians\, leading to the creation of countless classic rock albums. Acquired by National Music Centre in 2001\, the RSM has since been restored to its former glory and is now parked next to the King Eddy stage where it’s available for artists to record.
