Join a guided walk from The New Gallery to St. Patrick’s Island to discover native plants and explore Calgary’s urban ecology.
As part of the public programming for the Earthlings exhibition at The New Gallery, Latifa Pelletier-Ahmed of ALCLA Native Plants will lead a guided plant walk from the gallery to St. Patrick’s Island. Participants will explore the native plants that inhabit Calgary’s urban landscape while learning about their ecological roles, cultural significance, and relationships to local ecosystems. The walk will encourage close observation and discussion, inviting participants to consider how native plant communities contribute to biodiversity, climate resilience, and our understanding of place.
Drawing connections between the themes of ecology, stewardship, and our interconnected relationship with the natural world the program offers an opportunity to engage directly with the living landscape beyond the gallery walls. Participants of all experience levels are welcome, and no prior knowledge of native plants is required.
